“Their father, one of the nicest guys in the world, has been working on a feature length documentary for a couple of years. Mike asked Randy to cut it and today I got my first look at Ballhawks. The film profiles the guys who hang outside Wrigley Field, trying to catch stray balls that fly outside the park. What a great bunch of characters. The rough cut of the film was funny and exciting and moving and like all the best sports films, it’s about so much more than a game.”

On this date in 1969, center fielder Don Young misplayed two fly balls in the ninth inning, and the Cubs blew a 3-1 lead to the New York Mets. Ballhawks Director, Mike Diedrich and Writer, Kyle McCarthy present clips and discuss  the film.

Director Michael Diedrich and writer Kyle McCarthy preview and discuss their documentary film, Ballhawks, as well as deliver the opening toast and closing prayer. They will be joined by ballhawkers Moe Mullins and Rick Burhke, who collectively have seven decades experience outside Wrigley Field and thousand and thousands (and thousands) of balls.
